National Conference On Environment

Delivering a paper titled “Managing Our Environment for a Sustainable and Secure Future” during a two-day National Conference on Environment in Abuja on 20 May 2013, the wife of the former governor said environment-related issues had become one of the most topical matters on the world agenda.

She explained that evidence had shown that the impacts of environmental crisis had become major threats to the survival and sustainable development of humanity. According to her, several publications had identified Africa as the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

She further stated that in order to decide what actions to take, it was crucial to have the best possible information about the environment, climate change, and its projected effects. She urged all stakeholders to take conscious steps at the national, state, local, and personal levels to reduce the risks associated with climate change.

The wife of the former governor said communiqués and recommendations from conferences and workshops on the environment should be treated with urgency and implemented within a clear timeline.

On environmental sanitation and hygiene, she said she had been actively involved in monthly sanitation exercises, creating awareness and encouraging residents to maintain clean environments and personal hygiene.
